A spec script of Insecure.

I promised here you would get glimpses of my creative work that may not ever see the light of day. And I don’t know if there is a precedent for posting spec scripts, but I’m doing it. LOL. Anywho, worked on this for one of the millions of programs I applied to, and didn’t want it sitting on my computer, so sharing with my paid subscribers for funsies. Insecure, we saw all the resolve of Issa and Lawrence finally settling in, Molly getting her man, and Tiffany and Kelli moving into their next life phases, but we want more. What happens now as life continues on for this crew? As the real life adulting sets in? We’ve watched these friends fight hard for the life they want, but is there really a such thing as perfect?

This spec script picks up at Season 6, Episode 1.

COLD OPEN

Quick cuts of the sprawling LA Hills. Opulent houses and landscapes. Up the hill, we come to a beautiful home with a BMW in the driveway. We follow another car, a Lexus into the same driveway. When the door opens, it’s Issa Dee.

INT. ISSA AND LAWRENCE’S PLACE - EVENING

Issa comes inside and the table is set. Lawrence is putting the finishing touches on dinner.

ISSA

(deflated)

Pasta on Wednesday, again. Yay!

LAWRENCE

Meal planning takes the guessing out.

I used cavatappi though ...

ISSA

What the fuck is a Cavatappi?

They both crack up. Issa puts her things down and takes off her shoes before washing her hands at the sink. She joins Lawrence at the table as they dig into their dinner.

LAWRENCE

When you think about it though, it’s

like it’s all the same thing right?

Who decided to give it different names

for shapes?

ISSA

Did you dip into the edibles again?

LAWRENCE

You always got jokes, I’m just saying

it’s weird.

ISSA

Okay Pastradomus, can we eat?

LAWRENCE

Pastiavelli?

ISSA

Pastaferian.

Lawrence throws his hands in the air in surrender as they eat.

Montage of Issa and Lawrence’s routine for the rest of the

week:

A) They brush their teeth together in the bathroom.

b) Change into their pajamas, rinse and repeat.

c) Down to having sex in the same position.

One night, Issa and Lawrence are about to get it in and Issa awkwardly repositions herself to Lawrence’s confusion.

LAWRENCE

You feeling this?

(reluctantly)

But continuing his stride.

ISSA

Nope, but I wanted to commit.

They go back to what works.

INT. BEDROOM - A WHILE LATER

LAWRENCE

Things are good right?

Lawrence moves in and kisses Issa on the forehead.

ISSA

Perfect.
